Jaggery powder can be inco-orporated in so many hassle free ways in day to day life like you can make ooey gooey cookies, muffins, puddings, tea cakes, etc. or indian sweets like kheer, barfis, ladoos, and many more.

1. Jaggery Panna Cotta
Panna cotta is an extremely popular and innovative dessert.
Ingredients required :
- jaggery powder,
- milk,
- Cream,
- Cardamom powder and
- gelatin.
- Method — Take a little water, add three teaspoons of gelatin to it and keep it aside to bloom. In a pan heat jaggery powder (100-150 grams) in half cup of water till it dissolves completely. Add one fourth teaspoon of cardamom powder to it with a pinch of mace powder (optional) after removing it from the heat. Now add bloomed gelatin, two cups of milk and mix well. Next you have to add the lightly beaten cream (one cup) and mix well. Then pass the mixture through a sieve to avoid any lumps. Pour this mixture in small ramekins or molds and allow them to sit in the refrigerator for at least six to eight hours or overnight.
2. Wheat and nuts cookies
For a quick healthy jaggery dessert these cookies are a must try.
you need :
- 2 cups of wheat flour
- 1/4th cup sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup coconut flakes
- 1.5 cups of jaggery powder or crushed jaggery
- 1 tsp cardamom powder,
- 1/2 cup semolina,
- 100 grams butter or desi ghee,
- milk and
- baking powder.
- Preparation: mix all the above mentioned ingredients to make a slightly crumbly dough. Now divide the dough into equal parts to make cookies of your desired shape. Place them on a greased tray or parchment sheet and bake them for 15 – 20 minutes at 180C.
3. Sesame brittle with jaggery
Brittles (chikki or gajak) are one of the most traditional sweets made with jaggery. A simple healthy brittle recipe for your sweet cravings is:
Ingredients
- one cup sesame seeds,
- One cup jaggery powder or chopped jaggery,
- ¼ th cup of water,
- ½ tsp ghee,
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
- Dry fruit mix for garnish
- Method – in a pan melt the jaggery powder in water till it reaches a thick syrup consistency. Remove the pan from heat and keep stirring it to avoid burning while you add sesame seeds and cardamom powder. Spread the mixture on a parchment paper while it’s mildly hot. Then flatten it with a rolling pin. Cut into the shape of your choice. You can add some nuts on top like almonds, raisins or dry rose petals as garnishing.
4. Coconut Almond pudding
Sweet made from jaggery can not be complete without a pudding. So we are sharing a delicious recipe of coconut almond pudding and fir this you need –
- 150 grams of jaggery sugar,
- 50 grams brown sugar,
- a pinch of salt,
- 6 eggs,
- 20-25 almonds,
- 1&½ cup of coconut milk,
- ½ tsp of cardamom powder
- 1 tsp of nutmeg powder and
- 1 tsp vanilla essence.
- Method – add the jaggery, brown sugar and half of the milk in a blender and mix well till everything is a homogeneous mixture. Now strain the mixture. In a grinder jar make a fine paste of almonds u can add a tsp of poppy seeds in it which is optional. In another bowl beat the eggs with the rest of the coconut milk. Mix all the ingredients gently. Now transfer it to a mould and steam it for 30-40 minutes.
5. Date Jaggery Burfi

- Desiccated coconut
- Semolina

- Clarified butter(ghee)
- Method : boil ¾ cup of jaggery powder in ¼ cup of water till it thickens. Now add chopped dates (100 grams) with 1 tbsp butter or ghee, 1 cup of dry roasted semolina, ¼ cup of desiccated coconut, ¼ cup of grated coconut roasted in ghee, ½ tsp cardamom powder and 3 tsp of milk powder. Now cook all these things till it becomes a slightly firm dough. Then spread it on a grease platform and cut into the desired shape of your choice.
6. Coffee Date Jaggery Cake

Ingredients:
- Dates
- Semolina
- eggs
- Jaggery powder
- Desiccated coconut
- Spice powder mix
- Rose water
- Vanilla essence
- Honey
- Baking powder
- Method: Soak dates in ½ cup of hot coffee and allow to soak them for at least 1 hour or overnight is better. In a pan roast semolina and once it is warm add butter and mix well. Grind the dates, add jaggery power, ¼ cup desiccated coconut, ½ tsp mix spice powder, ½ tsp rose water, ¼ tsp vanilla essence, 1 tbsp honey, and ½ tsp baking powder. Beat the 2 eggs lightly with ¼ tsp salt and fold into the mixture of dates and semolina. Pour the mixture into a greased tray and sprinkle some cashews on top. Bake in a preheated oven for 15 mins at 180C and then 20-25 mins at 170C.

Ingredients required:
- Granny smith apples
- Jaggery powder
- Eggs
- Flour
- Cinnamon powder
- Milk

- Oil

- For this dessert you need to take two bowls and in one add wet ingredients which are 2 eggs, ½ cup milk, and ¼ cup oil. In another bowl dry ingredients are ¾ cup jaggery sugar, 1 cup flour, 2 tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp cinnamon powder, ¼ tsp nutmeg powder and pinch of salt. Now pour wet items into dry ones and mix well. - Wheat flour
- Ripe banana

- treacle/molasses
- oil
- yogurt

- For these muffins you need to mash 1 ripe banana, add ¾ cup treacle (molasses) and mix well. Beat the 2 eggs with a pinch of salt and mix with banana mixture with 1 tbsp curd, and ½ cup oil. In another bowl mix flour, ½ tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp baking soda, nutmeg powder. Now mix dry and wet items well and pour batter into the muffin tray. Top it with chocochips and walnuts, then bake at 180C for 30 mins.

One of the most prominent traditional desserts known to be made with jaggery is modak.
Ingredients:
- Rice flour
- Ghee
- Hot boiling water
For modak filling
- Grated coconut
- Besan
- Semolina
- Cardamom powder
- Ghee
- Pinch of salt
- Method : take 2 cups of rice flour and to this add 2-3 tbsp ghee with a pinch of salt. Mix well with your fingers. Add boiling water to form a soft dough. Keep it aside for 10 mins. For filling add ghee in pan add 2 tsp besan flour and roast it for a min. Now add 1 tbsp sooji, chopped nuts, 2 cups of desiccated or grated coconut with jaggery powder and ¼ tsp cardamom powder. Now make small balls of dough, make a center for filling and roll again into a modak using mould. Now steam them for 12-15 mins.
